Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Gaia Estate is a 30-year-old winery with vineyards in Santorini and the Nemea region in the Peloponnese. The company founded aby oenologists Leon Karatsalos and Yiannis Paraskevopoulos produces excellent wines from native vines and has been based in Nemea since 1999.
The Agiorgitiko grapes come from vineyards located at the top of the southwestern slopes of Koutsi on calcareous soil characterized żeby good drainage. Here the cool temperatures, the slope of the vineyards, the exposure, and the low yields guarantee the production of very concentrated grapes and wines of great character and excellent aging potential.
Fermentation is followed by a very long extraction phase and a 12-month maturation period in new French oak barrels. The Agiorgitiko from the Gaia winery reveals a dense and deep color with dark red tones.
It is a very fragrant wine with a complex aromatic profile and notes of ripe berries, vanilla, caramel, and hints of oak. On the palate, it is rich and round with a full, round body and velvety, well-integrated tannins.
The finish is long and slightly spicy. Try it with roast lamb with herbs and garlic, or with grilled red meat.
