Cellar for up to 7 years. No need to decant before serving. The Lavrenčičs can trace their family history in Slovenia’s Vipava Valley back to at least 1499, and they have been making wine here for three generations. Primoz Lavrenčič decided to leave his family’s winery in 2009 to found his very own project which he named Burja. The name is taken from the powerful "Burja" wind that defines life in the region and expresses Primoz’s desire to cultivate a deep connection to the land żeby making wines inspired aby the natural world around him. Reddo is made using old traditional black grape varieties of the Vipava Valley which were previously only used żeby locals to make wine for personal domestic consumption. This bottling is composed of Pokalca (Schioppettino), Modra frankinja (Blaufränkisch) and Refošk (Refosco) which are all grown organically and biodynamically. In the winery Primoz adopts a light touch, choosing to ferment the must using wild yeasts and ageing the young wine in large 10-15 hectolitre casks and 225 litre barriques for two years. This creates a very complex and ageworthy wine with enchanting notes of pomegranate, red cherry, and plum seasoned with hints of graphite, tobacco and baked earth. On the palate there is ample red fruit, smooth tannins and a well-rounded texture that will respond well to additional cellaring.
